Youth Club at Grindon Parish Hall

 

Trustees are delighted to announce the commencement of a 

Youth Club at the Hall on Thursdays. 

 

Several activities are being planned by youth representatives with 

support of Trustees and parents. Activities will include crafting, 

games, baking, quizzes, competitions ..... everyone is welcome. 

Please contact the hall for further information and an enrolment form 

(enrolment forms can also be found in the bus shelter outside the

Vane Arms in Thorpe Thewles.

 

The Youth Club will initially be held fortnightly 

6:00pm - 7:30pm commencing Thursday 12th September. 

 

 

 

 

Grindon Parish Hall - Annual Charity Event

 

Trustees are planning to hold the Inaugral Grindon Parish Hall Annual Charity Event at the hall in November 2024. 

 

Trustees are asking local businesses to donate prizes that we can raffle / auction to raise funds to enable trustees to continue to maintain the Hall, support the community and extend our offer to provide a weekly Youth Service facility; and a weekly ‘coffee, cake and chat’ session for residents to drop into a warm, safe space and meet fellow residents and chat or play cards, bridge, dominoes, chess or draughts, or host a book club.

 

We have to date secured a number of pledges of support ..... watch this space for further details of prizes that have been donated through the kind support of businesses and for further details of the event. 

 

 

Investing in the Hall

 

Trustees have secured funding from the National Lottery Community Fund. 

Funding of £19,100 will enable improvement works to the hall including:

  • The purchase of a large external store to enable items stored in the small meeting room to be relocated enabling the room to be used more widely.
  • The redecoration of the small meeting room to enable it to be used more widely
  • The installation of an access ramp to the side entrance of the small meeting room to improve accessibility
  • The replacement of facias and soffitts and/or repaint where needed    
  • Works to repair, sand and varnish wooden floor 
  • The installation of wall buffers to the main room to protect them from damage   
  • The repair of external render and external repaint   
  • Purchase of a smart TV for newly decorated room, replacing the one damaged by the storage of items against it 
  • Funding to enable a 'youth club' to be established and operated from the hall 
  • Funding to enable a 'safe / warm space' to be established and operated from the hall

 

Trustees have secured funding to enable the installation of solar panels (and battery storage). 

Trustees would like to thank several organisations for providing grant funding to enable this investment in the hall which will benefit all our users. 

Funders (and amounts awarded) are:

  • Northern Powergrid - £4000
  • County Durham Community Foundation (Banks Renewable Fund) - £3000
  • Tees Valley Community Foundation - £2500
  • Grindon & Thorpe Thewles Parish Council - £1000.

 

 

Parish Hall - Our Strategy for 2024/25

 

Trustees of the Parish Hall outlined the Strategy for the Hall at the AGM held on Tuesday 7th May 2024.

 

Trustees were delighted to hear constructive feedback and positive ideas to help deliver the strategy. All ideas were captured and will be considered and actioned by Trustees where appropriate.

 

The Strategy is aimed at 'Safeguarding the Future' of the Hall so it will last another 101 years.

 

The 5 key strategic objectives are to:

1. Promote the Hall

2. Invest in the Fabric of the building

3. Secure Grant Funding

4. Attract Volunteers

5. Hold prices at current levels

 

Each objective has specific actions identified. 

Trustees will be accountable for successful delivery of the Strategy and will report updates throughout the year.
